At the heart of South Tampa lies Virginia Park. It is a neighborhood regarded by many as the most unique part of the city. It is bordered by Palma Ceia to the east, Quiet European-esque Sunset Park & Sunset Isles lie to the west with Modest Fair Oaks to the south.

Just after the Second Great War, the area now called Maryland Manor was uninhabited with most part of it teeming with pine trees. The economic boom after the war witnessed a surging demand for real estate in Tampa and which resulted in the felling of most pine trees and preparing the land for development. Maryland Manor finally emerged in the 1950s.
